Words: La Verdadera Destreza

La verdadera destreza is the term used to describe the school of swordsmanship founded by Don Jerónimo Sánchez de Carranza in 1569 expanded upon by his students over the next three hundred years. The term "La verdadera destreza" does not translate literally from Castillian Spanish into English. Roughly translated the term means the true skill.

Advocates like fencers engage in duels with their enemies and opponents, the only difference being the nature and the style of the combat. Fencers convey their skill and knowledge through their demonstrable mastery of their weapons. Conversely, the duels engaged in by advocates are primarily mental duels with the spoken and written word serving as the weapons of advocates. The mastery and skill of advocates are demonstrated by the artfulness with which, they construct their arguments and their ability to sway or persuade the populace of the veracity of their positions.

In my recent employment I found that my employer was adept at swaying and swaying people to the truth of his positions, even if the adoption of such a position resulted in people regardless of whether the opponent was an opposing counsel, a client, or an employee, ending up in final position that was more detrimental than their starting position.

Indeed I was initally affected by the siren song of my employers words much to my deteriment. I only rgained my senses after my second salary check was not honored because, my employer possessed insufficient funds to pay my salary. I allowed myself to be gulled into lowering my guard and allowed my self to be wounded wounded through his skillful use of words

An excellent example of Destreza is not only in being swayed by words as you were swayed by the words of your employer it is also in the riposte or reply. Right now it seems popular in society to lie, cheat and steal. This behavior is nothing new and usually comes about during times of financial hardship. The "Hungry Thirties" produced a generation of people that were very adept in such things.
The Spanish language, much like the fighting system designed by Maistro Carranza has much wisdom to it. Carranza was the chief fencing instructor to the King of Spain. Kings do not tolerate bull and if it does not work off goes the head so to speak.
The Spanish words Locura (Madness) and Lectura (Reading) are similiar in sound and impart a rather funny observation on reading and the madness that can come with it. Another example is Enamorado (To be in love) and Enojado (Angry). Again many people in love often feel anger over their lover.
The Destreza system was based on a Renaissance ideal of the Trivium and Quadrivium of Scholastic Institutions of that time. These schools were based on the teachings of Aristotle and Euclid and were of a "scientific" or provable nature.
A lunge made with the same foot forward as the same hand is shorter than a lunge made from the opposite foot and opposite hand respectively because the angle is shorter.
The system advocated a scientific style of observation and record keeping. You were screwed over by your boss. Make a note of his appearance, dress and manors and tone of speech. Sit down and think of how to make your "Riposte" or reply with skill. Write your arguments down, speak them, them cut them apart and find the answers. Good Luck and Allay!

Dude what an idiot this anonymous poster is! Jeronimo based his work on other fighters of this time. I think your lying, stealing and cheating with your comments just like the people of the thirties did.
Your knowledge of the spanish langage is clearley fallicle. Or perhaps its Trivial or just down right Quadrilarious! Keeping records is for retards....I can remember everything! Hows that for a Riposte!

Ok. In the last two posts I (I posted them both and this one as well) played contrary. This was one of Aristotles ideas that was used by Destreza Masters to their advantage. In the first post the writing is good. In the second post words are mispelled and it is full of personal opinion-an opinion that attempts to counter the first post. The idea of masterful tactic has just been played by one person-ME. Attack, then attack your attack to find the counter. Use the counter as your attack. In doing this it takes the other persons attacks away from them. This tactic is most often seen in sales. USE IT to your advantage just like a true rhetorical speaker can take the most negative comment and find the contrary or other side to it and use a negative to make a positive. This lesson is over (And has just begun for you!) :)
